Gratituesday: Let The Children Lead the Way
Jason & Lindsay,
Keep doing whatever you’re doing with those lovely kids of yours, and thank you for sharing them with me. I promise I wrote this on Tuesday :)
Lucy,
Your cards, covered in bandaids and colors, included a profound “I love you so much.” I did a double-take at those words when I opened and read your note just before the second surgery. The cards, drawings and the hug you delivered them with conveyed nothing but love!
I’m grateful to know you and witness your boundless energy, and I’m always happy in your presence.
Thank you for the surprises and filling me up with love!
Matilda,
This past Saturday morning we sat together with the rest of the crew before I departed with your Papa and our friends for a weekend adventure. We had spent time together before, but you’re much older and wiser now. You were sitting to my right on your Mama’s lap -- we were both catching the morning sun through the big front window.
Getting warm in the sun, I took my hat off and you saw my scar. When I turned to you, you looked away. Then looked back and poked me to get my attention. You pointed to my scar, then pointed to a hangnail on your finger, then you blinked and smiled. Your blink conveyed a firm and warm, “It’s okay, I have a boo-boo too, and we’ll be alright!”
Thank you for reminding me that compassion and encouragement can be as simple as a gaze and a smile-- you inspire me to be gentle and caring in my words and actions.
You can’t read this for yourself because you’re two and a half years old; but if your literary skills catch up to your kindness, the world could gain a great author.
Much Love to you all,
CB
